One of the advantages of working with an established natural stone company is the ability to tap into our experiences and expertise in working with homeowners through the Minneapolis area. At Granite Unlimited, Inc., we have been installing custom granite countertops in homes for over a quarter of a century, so we have a good idea of common questions from those new to natural stone.
Here are some common questions we hear and the answers that we can provide from working with thousands of people per year in custom installations.
How long will granite counters last?
The answer to that question is actually easy; it is that these countertops will last longer than most homes. Keep in mind; this is a stone that was in buildings used by the ancient civilizations in Greece and Rome, some which are still in use and still in good condition. It is estimated that the granite found at the bottom of the Grand Canyon is from the Precambrian period, which is estimated to be between 1.58 and 1.65 billion years, according to radioactive isotope dating processes.
Is granite a good option for the bathroom?
Granite can be an ideal option for both a kitchen and a bathroom. With our recommended sealant, granite countertops in the bathroom are practical and easy to maintain with just a quick wipe of a damp microfiber cloth.
Granite in Minneapolis homes as a bathroom counter can match with natural stone options in the shower and on the floor, creating a relaxing, natural space that is very much like a home-spa atmosphere.
Is a countertop made with one slab?
The goal of any installation for granite countertops is to limit the number of areas where the granite has to be joined. However, for larger counter spaces, it may be necessary to use more than one slab.
We carefully consider the ideal place for the joining of the two marble slabs should occur. This is an essential part of our design process, optimizing the final look of the counters to create the ideal space.
