At Granite Unlimited, Inc., we take the time to ensure our customers understand how to care for their marble countertops. Most people are surprised at how low-maintenance these beautiful and durable countertops will remain with just a few basic cleaning considerations.

First, it is essential to have a marble countertop sealed. This seal is a clear, invisible coating that makes the surface of the marble resistant to water damage and stains. The sealant will need to be replaced every two or three years, depending on the amount of use and other factors.

Daily Care

The best way to care for your marble countertop is to follow up on daily care. Acidic foods and liquids such as juices, wine, vinegar, coffee, soda, tomatoes, or any type of citrus fruits can create etching on the surface. Immediately wiping up any spills or splashes with a damp cloth followed by a dry cloth will eliminate this problem. Wipe counters free from dust on a daily basis as this can help reduce surface scratches and abrasion.

For wet cleaning of the surface, choose a cleaner that is ph neutral. Our team can recommend the right cleaner for your marble countertop. Mild dish soap and water can also be used, but never use abrasive or harsh chemicals or cleaners on the surface. Avoid using most commercial counter or kitchen cleaners as they contain ammonia, bleach, vinegar, or citrus oils.

Heavy Stains

If you see stains or dried or hard to remove food, glue, or other things on the surface of the countertop, try soaking for a short amount of time and removing the material. Etching and stains can be removed with surface treatment on the spot, and we can recommend the best product to address the specific stain or surface issue you are experiencing.
